  9.  AB    OBJECTIVE: To strength the capacity and knowledge of program's managers
  10.        on methods and strategies for planning, surveillance, implementation,
  11.        evaluation and costing of STD control programs. METHODOLOGY: Teaching
  12.        methods was through lectures, seminars, group discussions and plenary
  13.        sessions. There was strong emphasis on practical exercises involving
  14.        participants in the desing of control programs appropriate in their
  15.        country of origin. Small group sessions conducted by one facilitator
  16.        comprised a large part of the course. RESULTS: The course was highly
  17.        evaluate by the 30 professionals responsibles for STD/AIDS programs at
  18.        the national and regional level in 16 different countries, whom
  19.        participated in the 2 weeks course. DISCUSSION: a) An statement calling
  20.        for the STD/AIDS programs coordination was made by the participants. b)
  21.        There was general consensus in the need to strength the STD/AIDS
  22.        programs manager's capacity and repeat the course annually.
